Bengaluru: The government is considering punitive action against land developers and builders responsible for unauthorised construction of layouts and apartment buildings.
Law Minister T B Jayachandra told reporters on Thursday that a decision to penalise such developers will be taken soon. The proposed Akrama Sakrama scheme, starting March 23, makes owners of individual houses and flats pay a fee to regularise their properties. However, there is no mention of the developers responsible for building the layouts and apartments.
He added that the government will also decide on what should be done about buildings with 100 per cent violations. The proposed law allows regularisation of properties with 50 per cent violations, but most of the violations are much above the cut-off mark.
On the proposed construction of a reservoir and setting up of a hydel power generation station at Mekedatu, Jayachandra said six companies had come forward to submit a report on how to build the plant.
“We will soon take a decision,” he said while reiterating that there was no change in the government’s stand on the proposed power generation plant at Mekedatu.
In cities, illegal structures on 20×30 ft plots would be regularised. This rule is not applicable to those who have built houses on sites belonging to the city development authorities.
Earlier, the government had decided to regularise houses built on sites with a 60×40 ft dimension in rural areas. But now, it has been extended even to houses on 50×80 ft sites.
