Bangalore :The Frazer Town sexual assault reached an interim closure yesterday, when police led by T. Srinivas, police inspector, KG Halli arrested Shafiq, 27, a resident of Pillana garden, the fifth accused. With this arrest all five members of the gang that molested the young lady and threatened his friend are in custody. He was on the run since the arrest of the prime accused Hyder Nasir soon after the incident on July 11th.
Apart from his involvement in the abduction, Shafiq is also accused of robbing the victim’s friend of a watch and cash and also of assaulting him. “Like the others, Shafiq is also a used car salesman,” N Satish Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (East), said. “He is sub-dealer employed by (Hyder) Nasir’s brother. Shafiq’s family had disowned him some time ago as they did not like the company he kept.” Nasir is the main accused in the case.
Police said they had not yet recovered the watch he stole from the victim’s friend, from Shafiq. He is yet to be produced before a magistrate. Police are expected to seek police custody to complete their investigation. Apart from Nasir and Shafiq, the others arrested include Mohammed Hafiz (32), Mohammed Ishaq Sawood (32) and Shoaib Sheik (27).
