Bangalore : The former Director-General and Inspector-General of Police Shankar M. Bidari joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in Bangalore here on Wednesday August 20.
The former DGP joined BJP at the presence of Jagadish Shettar and Prahlad Joshi here at Malleshwaram office.
After retiring from service, Mr. Bidari took a plunge into politics by joining the Congress. However, he quit that party after being denied ticket to contest the Assembly elections from Terdal constituency.
Later, he joined the Samajwadi Party. But he quit that party too and floated his own outfit, Janashakti. He had also contested unsuccessfully as an Independent candidate in the recent Lok Sabha polls from Bagalkot.
Mr. Bidari, who has served as Commissioner of Bangalore city and DG & IG of the State, had earlier worked as the commandant of the Special Task Force which carried out operations against forest brigand Veerappan.
