Bangalore: A former McDonald’s outlet manager, and 4 staffers (3 ex, one current) who robbed the Jayanagar outlet on Sept. 8th have been arrested.
The arrested are Abhishek, 19, Shashidar, 21, Prashanth, 20, Akash, 18, and Keshava, 19, all residents of Jaraganahalli, JP Nagar, Ragigudda and Jayanagar respectively.
All the thieves are pursuing their graduation and were working as part time employees of McDonald’s. While Shashidhar was working in the same outlet, others worked in other branches.
The robbery took place on September, 8th. A group of three miscreants gained entry into the McDonald’s outlet in fourth block, Jayanagar located close to the police station, at around 3.15 am. They wore helmets to mask their identity and rushed in when an employee opened the door to evacuate garbage. Inside the outlet were two employees. They waved sickles and attacked them with a log of wood and robbed Rs: 2 Lakh cash and gift voucher coupons from the cash box. Then they fled.
Police sources indicated that Shashidhar, the former manager who had quit a few months ago, who was working as a manager in the McDonald’s was the mastermind. Abhishek was the Judas, who opened the door for them, ostensibly to throw the waste and the one who called the police after his accomplices had left. As they were insiders they knew of the CCTV’s installed, and prevented the CCTV footage from identifying them, by wearing helmets. It is learnt, that in the end, Abhishek spilt the beans.
After the robbery, some of them went to Tirupati, and others to different places. Abhishek was given a sum of Rs 10,000 and asked to continue working, so that no one would suspect him.
Sources said that the police have recovered Rs 1.8 lakh cash and coupons from the arrested. The rest apparently has been spent by the accused.
