Bangalore: Because of security concerns, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is housed in the Jail Superintendent’s guest house which is part of the Central Jail complex.

She had pulao on Sunday morning and a frugal supper late Saturday in the Bangalore Central Jail where she has been lodged after a Special Court sentenced her to four years imprisonment in a corruption case.

“Jayalalithaa was served ragi malt, plain rice, sambar and curd rice with pickle last night,” a prison official said.

“The rooms have air conditioning, television and access to phones on request through the jailer. Sasikala and Ilavarasi are sharing another room while Sudhakaran, Jayalalithaa’s adopted son, is sharing a room with Janardhan Reddy,” a source said.

According to him, Sudhakaran was given drips this morning as he was feeling very weak.

Soon after Special Judge John Micheal D’Cunha pronounced the sentence at 5 pm in the Special Court on Saturday, Jayalalithaa was taken into judicial custody after medical check-up.

Being diabetic and having some ailments, the 66-year-old former Chief Minister was taken to a State-run government hospital in the Southern Suburb under Police escort for medical tests and treatment, as directed by the Judge on her appeal.

After treatment, Jayalalithaa was driven back to the jail premises.

“O. Paneerselvam brought Jaya her medicines, when she said she was feeling uneasy. Doctors checked on her. If her health deteriorates, she will be shifted to Jayadeva hospital,” an official said.

The room that Jaya is in, is the same one in which Yeddyurappa was lodged.
