Bengaluru: The Special Crime Branch (SCB) of Central Brueau of Investigations, Chennai has started its investigations on the IAS officer DK Ravi’s mysterious death case and spoke to senior police officers in Bangalore on Thursday to get basic details about the case.

Sources in the CBI said that they will make the Bangalore police as a party in the case as they failed to protect the scene of crime at the appropriate time. They have studied the FSL report and are trying to find the reason for collecting so much of evidence, which are not relevant to the investigation of the case. Sources said that they will question the Madiwala Police Inspector for not protecting the scene of crime at St John’s Wood Apartment flat of DK Ravi, where he found hanging on March 16.

News Karnataka reported on March 18 about how the CID police had found it difficult to investigate DK Ravi’s death case as the fingerprint bureau and FSL team had found hundreds of fingerprints and hair pieces at the scene of crime in St. John’s Wood apartment.

The local Madiwala police, under whose jurisdiction the incident took-place could not protect the evidences at ‘scene of crime’ as there was a ‘VIP rush’ towards the officer’s residence after hearing the news of death. Home Minister KJ George, leaders of various political parties and other VIPs rushed to the spot and entered the hall and the local police could not protect the crime scene.  This is because of the failure of the local Madiwala police, who could not protect the scene of occurrence and allowed all VIPs and others inside the officer’s residence. The finger prints and hair pieces and other such minute evidences found in the place will not help the police to find out any person’s clue who entered Ravi’s house for the possible murder. The finger prints and hair pieces are now becoming useless as they will only lead to VIPs who entered the house after the incident, an officer said.

The driver of DK Ravi and the Police inspector of the Madiwala, were the ones who visited the spot first and it was the fundamental duty of the Inspector to protect the scene of occurrence. He, with or without his knowledge, allowed several people to enter there and the CBI is curious as to why the senior police officers did not see the case from this angle as it was a sensational and important case.

The CBI officials may seek to record a statement of  the police commissioner MN Reddy and other officials in this regard and sources said that the Madiwala Inspector and even senior police officials may face the heat soon. They will also interrogate the driver of DK Ravi as they think the investigations should start with getting as much as evidence possible at the beginning.

At the same time, the Karnataka  government’s notification on transfer of investigation to CBI has been handed over to CBI on thursday by the Department of Personnel and Training.  Following this, the CBI team visited the Victoria Hospital on Thursday, where Ravi’s autospy was conducted. It is said that the CBI officials sought statements from the doctors concerned at the Victoria Hosptial. They have also collected the FSL report and are studying it, source said.

Incidnentallly, the FSL team reached the spot almost two-and-half-hour late though  they could have reached the spot in 15 minutes. CBI will look at this angle too: why the local police did not inform the FSL after coming to know of the incident.
