Bangalore: The Congress won two out of three seats in the Karnataka bypolls last week. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the Congress’s victory in the state can be credited to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.

“The results were expected. I had said that we’ll win two of the three seats. The leadership of Rahul and Sonia is important and relevant. We go to people with their leadership,” Siddaramaiah said speaking to CNN-IBN.

Speaking on crimes against women, Siddaramaiah said, “Crimes against women were there earlier also. Not that they increased after we came. But we are against it. Mostly it is by people know to the victim. So it gets difficult to prevent such cases.”

Siddaramaiah also hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he has failed to deliver on any of his election promises and that his popularity is waning. “The popularity of Modi is declining. His government has completed 100 days, but there are no achhe din, prices have not come down. His Budget is similar to that of the UPA,” Siddaramaiah said.

He has also criticised the government’s move to scrap the Planning Commission. “Scrapping of the Planning Commission is not a good idea, there is no proper vision without it, they didn’t announce any alternative,” Siddaramaiah said.

He also said that the Karnataka government will rope in tech czar Nandan Nilekani’s services to push its development agenda.
