Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched eKisaan tabs in a programme organized by eKisaan Foundation, a non-profit trust on Saturday January 24.

The government has planned to distribute free tabs to farmers to educate, engage and empower farmer community about the modern agricultural technology, marketing and weather information.

Addressing the gathering, Siddaramaiah said, India has a long tradition in farming. For centuries farmers have been the backbone of our economy. The programme is to enable and empowere farmers.

IT Minister S R Patil, who is also the chief patron of the initiative, presided over the function.

eKisaan Foundation trustee Srikanta Bhaskara said that eKisaan is designed as a farmers’ platform rather than a mobile app.”This programme tries to address one of the key challenges – last mile connectivity and actively engages our farming community. As most challenges are local, this program is designed to address local problems with a global solution and we have optimized our solution around local constraints.”

People-friendly associations like Biocon Foundation, Infosys Foundation, Elsita, Airtel and other associations were felicitated during the programme.

Home Minister K J George, MLA Govind Karjol, Arun Shapura, Mahantesh Koujalagi and MLC Ivan D’Souza were present.
