Bengaluru: In the wake of a suspected case of Bird flu in neighbouring Kerala, the state government has taken necessary precautions said Animal Husbandry minister T B Jayachandra here on Tuesday.
While speaking to the reporters he said that the department will conduct an intense surveillance of the movement of all poultry-related products between Kerala and Karnataka.
He stressed that there was no need to panic as Karnataka receives hardly any poultry such as eggs and chickens from Kerala. The officials have been inetructed to remain on high alert especially in Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts, he added.
The Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals (IAHVB), Bengaluru, has been directed to collect a large number of bird droppings in districts that border Kerala, and subject them to laboratory tests. The head of IAHVB has been appointed the nodal officer to monitor the situation and brief the media, Jayachandra added.
The minister also said officials from the animal husbandry department had been sent to Kerala to assist their counterparts in containing the spread of virus that causes bird flu.
