Bangalore: A paedophile skating instructor arrested on Sunday for the rape of a five-year-old girl in an east Bangalore school allegedly tried to abuse at least four other children in the past three years. There are also doubts if he was using photos of his victims for pornography.
“We have reliable information that he used to click photographs of children and would also show them obscene videos of children in the Whitefield school (where he worked before 2011),” police commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar said after announcing the arrest of Mustafa alias Munna, 30.
Auradkar said they are investigating if there were more people involved. The Varthur resident was married and has a two-year-old daughter.
The top cop said they are looking into at least four other instances of Mustafa trying to abuse children, hinting he could have been on the rampage in %the school where he was working since 2011. “But there are no written complaints,” he added.
“He had worked with another school in Whitefield before joining here in 2011. We have information that he was discharged from duty after questions over his character were raised,” Auradkar said, refusing to reveal the name of the school at this juncture.
The east Bangalore school will now have to answer some tough questions as Auradkar disclosed lapse on its part. Answering a specific question, he admitted that the school had not done proper verification before hiring Mustafa, who hails from Darbhanga in Bihar.
This has left parents wondering whether the grisly crime could have been prevented if the school had followed basic procedures.
Police, who have information about his pedophilic activities, said they had not come across any complaints that suggest compromise on the safety of his daughter.
A big shocker was Mustafa owning an expensive mobile phone and having a couple of laptops even though he earned just Rs 18,000 per month.
While Auradkar stopped at expressing surprise over the matter, another senior IPS officer, attempting to link his poor finances but sophisticated equipment, said, “There is a lot of money to be made on the dark side of Internet with child pornography. We will have to look into that aspect.”
The officer said the investigating team had found such videos on his laptop. “It has to be verified if there are any videos of children he may have abused in the past,” the officer said.
The six-year-old girl’s father had lodged a complaint on July 14 that his daughter had been sexually assaulted by two teachers around 11 am on July 2. Police have invoked Section 376 (rape) of IPC and Sections 4 and 6 of Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse (POCSO) Act 2012.
Over 120 cases of pornography have been registered in Karnataka since 2010, and police say a good number of these involve children, as they are easy targets without the ability to understand what is being done to them.
