Bangalore: The State government is likely to a declare holiday on October 6, on the occasion of Bakrid. A government order to this effect may be issued on Wednesday.
The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DP&AR) has submitted a proposal in this regard to the Chief Minister’s office, official sources said. Wakf Minister Qamarul Islam on Tuesday urged Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee to take necessary steps to declare holiday on October 6. This is because the Karnataka Moon Sighting Committee has decided to celebrate Bakrid on the same day, he added.
If October 6 is declared holiday, then government offices would be continuously closed from October 2 to 6 because of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, followed by Ayudha Pooja, Vijayadashami and Bakrid.
