Bengaluru: When today’s youth are much attached to technology, social media and modern world, this 12th grade boy from Bengaluru is busy creating awareness about organic farming.

Arya Pudota from Bengaluru decided to give something to nature in return and it was his mother who encouraged him to take up organic farming. In 2011, Arya’s mother purchased a land near their house to grow vegetables. Arya not only took to work in the field but also researched about organic farming. He has also developed a basic Grow BaSiC kit containing helpful materials.

He started an YouTube channel named “My Organic Farm” in the year 2014 to promote organic farming. His channel has been already subscribed by 5000 people and his videos get more than a lakh views.

Arya was quoted saying to BM, “Sixty percent of the people on my channel are from India. The next highest is America and the rest are mostly from Singapore, UK and UAE. Many people send me mails on how to go about the basic farming methods. When I am in need of suggestions, I ask my uncle who owns a farm in Hyderabad. My friends have always helped me with the farming. Many people come and ask me about the plants. It is nice to see that the number of people interested in organic farming has increased with time. Many people want to eat healthy, but have no knowledge on how to go about growing them. Another issue is when they are living in areas where they can’t find the raw materials. That is when I created the Grow BaSiC kit containing basic helpful materials. It is disheartening to see senior citizens too not being able to identify one plant of fruits and vegetables, but I really can’t blame anyone as they haven’t seen them often. My suggestion to people is that they have to grow what is suitable in their climate and the kind of soil. Like someone in Delhi found it hard to grow a certain crop. I suggested that they could keep the plant in shade and that worked,” he said.

He has held sapling distribution drives in the city encouraging public to preserve nature. His school has supported him in his mission to promote organic farming.
