Check out the top 10 Indian bikes that rocked the sales chart for their manufacturers

While the Splendor continues to dominate India’s two-wheeler market, the only other product to hold a candle against it is the Honda Activa, says Indian motoring website MotorBeam.

The 2014-15 financial year came to a close giving a chance to all manufacturers to assess their position in the Indian two-wheeler market. While the car market had been sluggish over the past year, it was the motorcycle and scooter space that flourished and this year too the numbers are optimistic as ever.

The 2014-15 fiscal was generous to Hero MotoCorp while Honda continued to build its sales in a bid to beat its erstwhile partner.

That said, check out the 10 best and brightest of the Indian two-wheeler market that rocked the sales chart for their manufacturers.

10. Hero Glamour 125

Making its entry on the tenth position this year, the Hero Glamour 125 managed to retail over 5.51 lakh units in the 2014-15 financial year but was still a good chunk away from the segment best seller Honda CB Shine.

9. Bajaj Discover Discover 150S

Too many Discovers may have spoiled the soup for Bajaj Auto as the commuter brand grabbed the ninth spot on the list witnessing a downfall of 43.9 per cent in year-on-year sales.

The new Discover 150S and 150F haven’t helped matters either.

8. Honda Dream

Honda is doing great numbers in India and is only second to its former partner Hero MotoCorp in volumes. Making its entry at the eighth spot, Honda’s budget Dream series has been retailing well for the Japanese automaker with 6.14 lakh units sold as it tries to beat Hero’s numbers in the game.

7. Bajaj Pulsar

Bajaj’s pride, the Pulsar brand has a strong following in the country and the same rightly reflects in the sales as well. The automaker sold 6.31 lakh units of the Pulsar range last fiscal which is only set to grow further this year with as many as four new models on sale.

6. TVS XL Super Moped

In either case, they both sell without much hassle on a strong brand value and word of mouth. The only TVS product on the list, the XL Super clocked 7.55 lakh units in the last fiscal with a year-on-year growth of 4.5 per cent.

5. Honda CB Shine

Honda’s best selling 125cc motorcycle in the world, the CB Shine is one of the strongest offerings in the Japanese manufacturer’s lineup and also its second most selling product in the country after the Activa.

With a refined motor, sorted mechanicals and trouble free ownership, the Shine clocked 8.27 lakh units last year, growing at a rate of 13.5 per cent.

4. Hero HF Deluxe

One of Hero’s strongest contenders, the HF Deluxe is a 100cc commuter motorcycle with the capability to tackle any terrain, almost. With an extremely fuel efficient engine and almost inexistent maintenance costs, Hero pushed out a little over 10.82 lakh units of the entry-level motorcycle last year.

3. Hero Passion

Available in three variants and two engine options (97.2cc and 109.1cc), the Passion range is another Splendor in the making in Hero’s stable. Sales, however, did see a marginal dip compared to the 2013-14 fiscal as the Indian auto giant sold 13.41 lakh units in the 2014-15 financial year, down by 7.4 per cent.

2. Honda Activa

The only scooter to make it to the list, the Activa needs no introduction as it is the top most selling scooter in India. The Japanese manufacturer’s bestseller is the only one worthy enough to challenge Hero’s throne and is coming very close to the same with 21.78 lakh units sold in the last financial year.

1. Hero Splendor

The undisputed king of the Indian two-wheeler market, the Splendor is a brand that is not only hard to beat but even harder to live up to. With 25.17 lakh units sold in the last fiscal, sales did see a marginal drop of 11.1 per cent compared to the 2013-14 financial year but that wasn’t enough to deter its dominance from the market.
