Chikkaballapura : Will Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi contest from Chikkaballapura constituency? Speculations are rife in this regard and highly placed sources have even said that it was owing to this reason that sitting MP and Union Minister Veerappa Moily’s name was not included in the first list of candidates.
Already, an internal survey of the Congress has revealed that Moily had greater chances of losing the elections if he contests this time. Sources say Rahul has chosen Chikkaballapura considering it safe as he is facing stiff contest from BJP and Aam Aadmi Party in Amethi.
In the meantime, JD(S) leader and former CM HD Kumaraswamy has already declared that he will contest from Chikkaballapura if the Congress fields Rahul from there. The BJP has already announced Bachegowda as its candidate from here.
Sources say Congress leaders would support any move by Rahul to contest from Chikkaballapura. Moreover, it is learnt, Moily himself is ready to let his constituency to the Congress scion. In the event of Rahul winning from Amethi and Chikkaballapura, he will have to resign from one seat and would surely relinquish his Chikkaballapura seat which in turn will be beneficial to Moily, feel political observers.
